Cleanliness (Hygiene) Gifts Health.
Once when the Prophet (peace be upon him) saw a disheveled man entering the mosque, he (peace be upon him) gestured to the man and said “Return home, comb your hair and beard and come to the mosque.” The man returned home and came after freshening up.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) remarked “Doesn’t the man
look better now than what he looked with disheveled hair like a Satan?
“Cleanliness (hygiene) feeds” is an old saying. Cleanliness (hygiene) is very important to man. People like to converse with a clean man. No one likes to talk to an unclean man.
A clean man lives longer. A healthy life equals unreducing
wealth. We should be clean, have daily showers, and perfume ourselves.
The Arabic saying “Attaahir nisful imaan” translates as “Cleanliness is half of faith (in the One God)“. The prophet (peace be upon him) showered daily and perfumed himself. When he (Peace be upon him) enters a place, his fragrance can be perceived even from a long distance. Once the fragrance of the prophet (peace be upon him) reached his wife Mother Khadeejah from afar, prompting her to beautify herself for her beloved husband.
Abul Ahwas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his
father “When I went to the prophet (peace be upon him) I was dressed in very
ordinary and mediocre clothes. The
prophet (peace be upon him) inquired if I was wealthy. I replied in the
affirmative. He asked to what extent was I wealthy? I replied “The Almighty has
blessed me with camels, cows, sheep and horses. I also own slaves”.
The prophet (peace be upon him) remarked “You do not display the signs of being blessed with such wealth by The Almighty”.
There are many benefits to being clean and presentable. When
we go dressed well for an interview, the interviewer will be happy to conduct
the interview and select us.
The late US President Kennedy was advised by his father “It is not important that we work. It is more important how we do the work that has been assigned to us. Even if the job is to clean the streets it must be done with the passion of an artist”.
We like to live and work in a clean place. We like to consume clean food. We wouldn’t want to walk or exercise on the sides of a road with diesel fumes. We prefer to walk and exercise in a park with greenery and clean air.
If we understand that cleanliness (hygiene) is the rung to
health and achievement, then it is possible to live a long life of hundred
years.
